Wildcard qualifications
Tournament director John van Lottum has provided three Dutch couples with wildcards for the qualifying tournament of the second edition of Decathlon Premier Padel Rotterdam. Mats & Kai Groen, Bram Meijer & Tygho Schoonus and Bo Luttikhuis & Janine Hemmes can qualify on Sunday, September 28 and Monday, September 29 for the main tournament, which starts on Tuesday, September 30. In the main tournament, the field of participants consists of the Top 50 in the world. Decathlon Premier Padel Rotterdam will take place from September 28 to October 5 in Rotterdam Ahoy.
The identical twin brothers Mats and Kai Groen are eighth and 11th on that national ranking list. They stepped into the padel adventure together about seven years ago, where they have since reached the Dutch top. Bram Meijer is a seven-time Dutch champion and has teamed up with young talent Tygho Schoonus this season. Meijer is fifth in the national rankings, while Schoonus is tenth. Bo Luttikhuis and Janine Hemmes are third and fifth in the Dutch rankings, respectively. At the end of July they experienced a wonderful first with their first joint international title at the FIP Bronze tournament in Mexico.
Four Dutch couples are already assured of participation in the main tournament of the second edition of Decathlon Premier Padel Rotterdam. They previously received a wildcard to do so. Among the ladies, Steffie Weterings and Marcella Koek may mix with the absolute world top, while among the men the duos Youp de Kroon & Julian Prins, Sten Richters & Thijs Roper and Bart van Opstal & Menno Nolten can be found on the participants list.
All matches will be played in Hall 1 and the Arena. This makes the tournament a lot more compact than in the first edition, when the preliminary rounds were held in Hall 6. Moreover, Hall 1 guarantees a total 'padel experience', because in addition to the competition courts, space has been reserved for participation, VIP and partner stands.
